Highlighting the Past, Illuminating the Present, Sparking the Future... this very important tag line for the Brush High School Alumni Association points to the spirit behind the force that guides us. In addition to focusing on our alumni and our history, we also strive to maintain a positive, enriching relationship with the high school, its activities and its student body. Keeping that in mind, this past September, the Alumni Association participated in our first SEL Appreciation Day at Legacy Village.
Currently in its third year, SEL Appreciation Day is held on a Saturday and is a day where students, parents, administrators and staff members come together to host a community event highlighting the talent and positive accomplishments of all district students, kindergarten through high school seniors. Members of the various different district performing groups provide performances in the Legacy Village gazebo throughout the afternoon. The main street through Legacy Village is closed to traffic and tents line both sides, staffed by a variety of different district organizations giving demonstrations, hosting activities for visitors and providing a vision in to the fabulous things happening in our schools. Staff and students spend the afternoon walking around, visiting with community shoppers and spreading ARC spirit. The afternoon ends with the drawing of raffle tickets providing Legacy Village gift cards to the winners.
This year for the first time, the Alumni Association hosted a tent. Visitors to our tent looked at photographs we brought providing a glimpse at the history of the District. Current students were anxious to hear about what life was like at Brush in the "olden days" and laughed at our hair-styles, clothes and "vintage cars". Time changes many things...but one thing remains constant...Brush ARCS rock!
We thank the District for inviting us to participate in this event that will, we hope, become an annual tradition for the Alumni Association.
