↵ NEWSAlumni Music ScholarshipsOriginal Release: 11/24/2025 Alumni Music ScholarshipsTerry DiFranco Herschman, '73 In May 2025, alumni of the Brush High School Music Department awarded scholarships to three SE-L musicians for work in their performing groups. Brush alumni Steven Schachter, MD, Neil Brofman, DMD, and Terry DiFranco Herschman, three members of the Class of 1973, developed and solicited donations for the “Lindley Hall Award for Excellence in Music” on behalf of music alumni who were students of the beloved choir director, Mr. Lindley Hall. Mr. Hall's inspirational and relentless work to achieve excellence in music performance at Brush Hall influenced hundreds of students in the music department. Many have gone on to be lifelong musicians, continuing to sing and play instruments to this present day. Mr. Hall nurtured musical growth, developed talent, and added substantial value to the musical world and to our lifelong pursuits in the arts. Mr. Hall was the vocal music director at Brush from 1967-1976. It was a wonderful treat that Lindley Hall traveled to Ohio from his home in California to present the awards with the alumni. Students in Band, Orchestra and Chorus were eligible for the award. This year, scholarships included an award of $2,000.00 to Evan Dela Vega, senior cellist with the Brush Orchestras. Evan will attend CWRU as a music education major in the fall. Both Audrey Couture (Grade 8) and Liam Schaefer (Grade 7), members of Memorial Advanced Orchestra, received grants of $500 to attend the Baldwin-Wallace Summer String Camp. The music alumni thanked the recipients and all members of the performing groups for working hard to maintain a tradition of hard work and excellence that has been so important to us. Many thanks to those who have donated. It is our intention that the award continue to be presented annually.
